EVENT 003

> EVENT #003

On September 10th, as the sun hits its highest point and most New Amsterdam citizens are fast asleep, two simultaneous operations are suddenly underway. The first operation involves seemingly innocent civilians around the city. The knocks on their doors are quiet, insistent, before they open, letting several heavily armored men inside to disrupt what may have otherwise been a decent day of sleep. There will be few – if any – witnesses left behind in the homes themselves. Targets will be sedated and secured to be brought in. Any adults with them will be killed, and any children will be sedated and left behind.

Those targeted are Morningstar agents and contacts. Not all of them will be brought out of their home via silent invasions. Anyone who thinks these home invasions are suspicious, strange, or wants to call in – they will. However, the New Amsterdam Police Department won't be allowed to act. As the military, intelligence and security arm of the United Nations, the UNA will step in and shut down any actions from the NAPD to investigate these "break-ins," effectively tying their hands regarding any missing persons cases within these next 24 hours.

The second operation takes place in a specific part of town: where the UNA are stationed in New Amsterdam. This part of New Amsterdam acts as a hub for all UNA soldiers, offering them a community that's separate from the rest of the city. Just as the UNA soldiers begin to strike against the Morningstar agents in their homes, a smaller, four story warehouse at the edge of this UNA hub, just outside of their main base, will become the target of Morningstar's more combat-oriented agents. Since their attempt to intercept UNA weapons went poorly in June when the first wave of characters arrived, this is their second try. This is where another problem arises: this is a trap. Because of course it's a trap.

This two-pronged attack will leave Morningstar without options. Once El and Gaby get frantically sent word about what's going down, they'll reach out to the player characters for help. Countless Morningstar contacts are in danger because someone leaked their identities to the UN. In order to sweep away a long-festering problem, the UNA has decided to act. In order to draw out the agents who would cause more problems – and would prove too difficult to take down – they've set up a trap for the remaining Morningstar agents at the UNA base.

How everyone responds to the call is up to them – and thus, how this plot resolves will be up to character responses and actions. We don't have a set plot resolution in mind!

> THE OPERATION

In order to save people's lives and potentially stop (or help) the attack on the weapons cache, they have to split up and go in. Gaby will be leading everyone to a different part of the grocery store, where an additional hatch will open and provide stealth technology to everyone, as well as any additional supplies they'll need to help out.

◉ Everyone will be provided with the addresses of various Morningstar contacts around the city. They need help. They will also know the location of the UNA base, though Gaby will advise everyone to be cautious about pursuing the UNA base because of the inherent risks involved.
◉ The stealth mask covers someone's entire face, as well as obscures their neural implants. Any surveillance will be scrambled when it views the masks, and they also scramble the signal on neural implants. The front of the masks are made of a strange, shifting gel that makes anyone's eyes hurt when they look at it for too long. This is technology developed by Morningstar, so it will be traced back to Morningstar.
◉ Everyone will be given a pair of gloves with special traction that will be useful for things like climbing walls. This is also because fingerprints are linked up to everyone's neural implants.
◉ She will also hand out guns, which have two settings: stun and kill. Gaby will implore everyone to do the former.
◉ She'll provide everyone with a bulletproof vest in hopes they can get out alive no matter where they go.
◉ In the event that these supplies don't work and someone dies, she'll ask that they bring the corpse back to the safehouse for revival. Taking note of when they died will be extremely important, as that's critical to the revival process.

> THE NONCOMBATANTS

The agents and contacts around the city are people who joined up with Morningstar, but had no interest in exposing themselves or their families. They weren't trained to use weapons, especially in a world where it's difficult to travel armed. For Gaby, handing out these addresses is a last resort.

◉ Not only do they need to be saved from the UNA, they'll have to be escorted to various safehouses around the city. These safehouses are not common knowledge, so – for the moment – they are secure. These can easily be separate jobs, and the safehouses will need help getting set up.
◉ There will be instances where the PCs arrive too late. They'll find evidence of the UNA entering the homes – these are always in apartment complexes – and anyone left behind. Children will have been sedated and left asleep, and they will need to be brought to the safehouses, as well.
◉ There will also be instances where the PCs arrive just as the UNA arrive. This will result in a fight. The UNA will be attempting to take their targets alive, but will try to kill any PC characters.
◉ There will also be instances where the PCs arrive long before the UNA.
◉ Some of the safehouses will need to be supplied because of the short notice.

> THE WEAPONS CACHE

The weapons cache is located in the heart of a four-story building on the outer edge of New Amsterdam. It's a repurposed, highly secure warehouse that used to develop engines for construction equipment. The assault on the UNA base will be news for Gaby, too, and she won't be happy about it. Sending people there is partly her hoping that they can prevent the attack from happening in the first place, or just to save the lives of the other Morningstar agents who are walking into a fatal trap.

◉ The base itself is secure, with surveillance around the clock. However, Morningstar intel told them that they could hit the base within a small period as they update encryption and take cameras offline. This is true.
◉ There will be numerous weapons available on site. Both the Morningstar agents and the UNA soldiers will have some available on them. It will be obvious that the Morningstar agents came to take this cache through any means necessary. None of their guns will be set to stun.
◉ The main weapons cache will be able to be opened up with some hacking skills at the center of it all. This will be some advanced weaponry: armor-piercing bullets, EMPs that can actually take out a city block, as well as devices that can knock someone out on contact. All of these are highly experimental and have the potential to cause more harm and not do what they're intended to do.

> THE UNA

The UNA soldiers will be intimidating in their stature and how they carry themselves. They refer to one another by designations – a series of three numbers and little more. They work as a well-oiled machine, moving in tandem with minimum words or signals. They give no indication of who they are under their heavy armor and masks. Even if their masks are removed in a fight, they'll appear to be soldiers, with short-shorn hair.

◉ The UNA soldiers will be heavily armed and in full body armor. They will appear as if they're fully armed with cybernetics, but the armor acts as an exoskeleton for them as they move.
◉ It will be extremely difficult to take any UNA soldiers down. Anyone going into a fight with them will find themselves injured, if not worse.
◉ It will be difficult to get any information on them. If they are taken down, there will be other soldiers at the ready to come claim their bodies, whether they're alive or dead. This will be near-automatic, regardless of the site itself.
◉ The UNA soldiers will act with lethal force toward anyone who tries to get in their way.

Once the goods are out – should anyone accept the mission itself, or even if they don't and go their own way – there will be several options available:

RESCUE: Numerous people around the city risked their families and their own lives to join Morningstar. Right now, they need help. For anyone who's not getting the alert on time, they'll need some help. Sweep in and try to save them through whatever engineered means are available. This will likely mean coming face to face – so to speak – with some UNA soldiers.

SABOTAGE: A lot will be going on, and there will be some room for different plans. Given the stealth tech that's necessary to pull off a rescue operation of this size – as well as the weapons at the heart of it – there are a lot of chances for opportunistic characters to take advantage of the situation itself and go their own way. Wreck havoc, cause problems – but bear in mind that there will be consequences.

INVESTIGATE: Not equipped for playing hero, but concerned about what's going on? Use the chaos as a veil to get some answers.

MISCELLANY: The safehouses need set up. People need to be escorted. The NAPD aren't allowed to act, but they're still out there with their hands tied. The city has been through a lot, and this is another drop in the bucket. The UNA meant for this to be offer the radar. Will it stay that way?

> NOTES

There will be some time dilation with this event, giving people an opportunity to plan and come up with ideas. We ask that you keep the majority of all event planning on this OOC post so that we can be privy to the ideas that everyone comes up with as it runs its course and help shape the response. If someone comes to us with a plan, it will be easier for us to point you to another player if they've discussed a similar idea elsewhere so that player can be looped in.

The event will take place from 12:15 PM on September 10th and will end the next day September 11th at the same time, regardless of how events proceed or conclude. OOCly, the event will be considered to be running between January 19th and January 26th because of time dilation. An OOC aftermath post will go up on January 26th that factors in character actions.

Characters will continue to have access to the network throughout.

There is one power level up available for this event, granted for a thread of at least 5 log/action comments containing your character utilizing their power in some way during the event itself. They will need to reach the 5 comments required by FEBRUARY 23 to be eligible. Submission will be handled on the wrap up post.

We tried to provide some more ideas for how to take this event, but we want to reiterate that this event is open-ended and completely dependent on character action. We don't have a set solution in mind. If you don't have any ideas that fit the framework above, please feel free to run with it! And, as always, please ask us any questions below about the event below so we can help you with any ideas you have in mind!

SAVING WHAT WE LOVE IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN FIGHTING WHAT WE HATE.

Which is to say Rey will be working hard to rescue Morningstar agents. She will prioritize children over all else, though.

Her gravity-manipulation power will mean that she can slow UNA agents down/hold them back to give any Morningstar operatives and/or PCs with her a chance to run.

I'd like to get her injured during the course of the event, probably while trying to anchor UNA agents to keep them from pursuing/fighting ppl staging rescue.

Achilles will be involved in the Operation, since it gives him the chance to do what he was built for. He will be actively seeking out UNA soldiers to fight and allow other characters to do the rescuing.
- Looking at this as potential for character growth, I would like for him to pair up/group with character/s who would encourage him to be merciful to his enemies. He would indiscriminately kill any of the UNA soldiers whenever he got the chance, otherwise.

- I'm totally cool with showing mercy leading to Achilles getting fucked over somehow, or seriously injured. He has no divine invulnerability. He's probably gonna get wrecked. And then his power can activate.

- Achilles can use a gun but he is better equipped with a melee weapon. Any other characters out there who are going to chuck their guns and pick up a sword or something instead??? Let me know.

Kylo will be helping in the rescue effort. I have no idea how useful his new power bump will be ㅡ he can generate fire now, fun times ㅡ against the UNA but it will at least be fun to try and see what happens.

He's been itching to punch something for a while and will probably wind up injured in the process.

Keith is good for both portions of the mission, so I'm going to see where he'd be best. My instinct is that he would know that he's good for the base, and would be able to help, get in, and try to manage the UNA agents. His adaptability will make him more capable to handle his surroundings and fit in. If that ends up being the side of the mission that gets more people, he'll go to the other part.

He's good at building bombs (believe it or not) and creating distractions to try to startle the Morningstar agents who are inside, and I ... would actually love to be able to do something with an explosion. His idea would be to set up a third party, go in big, completely making it impossible for both groups to go head to head in the base itself. His plan wouldn't go very deep, though. Because Keith's plans are more in the moment.

Other than that, I want someone to pick Keith up and throw him during this.

Clarke will be keen to play a commander-type role, helping with strategy while being able to do some on site things. She has a life steal power that I'd be eager to have her push to its limits here. She's got a lot of experience with moving a large amount of people to new locations and thinking on the fly (thanks, her life), so she would be ready. Most of her stuff is "dictating things and being sensible," but ... more importantly, I want her to hurt some soldiers and get hurt herself. Clarke has no problem shooting a gun and likely would turn off the stun option almost immediately.

If anyone needs someone to push their characters in this, she would be down. I'm also down to have her discuss the philosophical implications of Morningstar going after super dangerous weapons.

She's also going to be taking notes of the types of people that are being saved. For her own purposes. Sneaky purposes.

Oh, and finally, she will do some medical care!!

Super excited for this!!!!

Heine will (grudgingly) be involved in the operation, because this isn't too unlike the sort of jobs he'd been doing anyway back home, aka busting gangs and rescuing children. Besides, it's a self preservation sort of thing too...
-I am looking to have him actually work with someone / group of someone for things because he tends to go off on his own and wreck things! someone who can maybe keep him on a leash or else reasonably convince him to stay in line ... would be cool. I want him to learn what teamwork is!

-Also, totally down for Heine to be reckless anyway and get injured. He still has limited healing/regen ability which won't help much with big injuries but Heine does tend to put himself in the way when he fights.

-Guns! Anyone needing a quick crash course on guns .... in any case, Heine is very good at it so he can act as a marksman or idk sharpshoot or at least a backup for your group / your character in the initial process!

-His power is that his blood is flammable/explosive and he can blow stuff up ... it's very basic at this point so it's not going to be any destructive in terms of damage inflicted, but maybe he could use that as distraction if you want some kind of a pullback strategy?

This is all I got at the moment, I'm super keen to have him be unnecessarily reckless about this, so please hit me up if you got any other particular ideas?

bombs!!!
this is just a basic idea and i don't know how to go about doing it, but heine's power is that his blood works as a bomb..... idk maybe we can throw something together with this?

in any case, keith seems to have more of his shit put together than heine, and I want this.

OH MY GOD.

Okay, let's see how we can spin this because I think Achilles would give him a prelude to a warning? A sort of warning? He doesn't want Keith to get shot... They can be looking at the enemy and like okay what's the best way to ambush them and achilles is like i got an idea, stick your sword out and then one arm tosses him.

Damian will want to help with THE OPERATION and will do all he can to stop the enemy from getting their hands on the weapons cache, as well as protect any civilians or bystanders in the way. But it's also entirely possible he'll get sidetracked by the people who need to be RESCUED.

⚉ damian will absolutely sacrifice himself to protect others. be they civilian or displaced. there is no question about that. if things go south and the options are their lives or his, he's throwing his life down for theirs. even if he hates you.

⚉ to that end, there is very little chance this won't go down without him throwing himself at the UNA soldiers. i'm totally okay with him getting himself killed, since for all his skill he's spent the past five years being able to shrug off most damage that should be lethal.

⚉ he will most likely NOT be using the stun function on any guns. sorry gaby.

i mean, if it came to that they could makeshift .... molotov cocktail except with his blood (i know, gross) ? somehow? clearly i don't know how bombs actually work.

i was hoping heine will find out about his power during this event just because he hasn't really bled yet somehow for him to find out, so that could also be a thing?

Since Peggy Carter is maintaining a cover of... basically being a non-combatant, that’s the option she’ll volunteer for — a rescue op that puts her in the action and helping Morningstar without being directly in the line of fire. (Or so she believes.)

THAT BEING SAID, she hasn’t triggered her ability yet and running into UNA soldiers on site and getting into a skirmish with them is the best opportunity for that to go down. Her power is metal mimicry, specifically titanium, so while it’s highly likely she’ll get injured on the op, her ability will spare her from anything life-threatening. Peggy also has a head for strategy and obviously is skilled in the field so she’d show a willingness to lay out a plan and to take point on a team if necessary. (Also she’s a damn good shot with a gun.)

Tl;dr my goal is to trigger her ability and have her use it in combat and bring people home in one piece.

@daisy.johnson quick thoughts:
  • when innocent lives are at risk, daisy is gung-ho to help. her misgivings about morningstar don't matter when children are being targeted, so she'll be fully compliant in taking any and all weaponry and gear she can get her hands on. (everyone except fitz and bobbi will likely be surprised by soldier!daisy — serious, steel-eyed, and ready to fight, there won't be any laughing until the mission is over.)
  • if the cache's electronic locking system is well-known (or if the PCs are advised prior to departure), daisy's own hacking capacity would be useful here. however, her priority would be to the rescue op unless someone points out that she'd be more useful as a tool rather than a blunt force object. she may or may not agree, but this is conflict i'm open to!
  • anyone who opts for sabotage in her field of vision will be greeted with a stern, unforgiving reckoning. now is not the time to fuck around.
  • i'd like to take advantage of the power-up opportunity, as i missed out on the last one. daisy's power is resource management — if your character has a wild idea for a weapon they need fashioned or a piece of gear they need built, please feel free to hit me up!
