Looking at this and there's a sort of three-pronged approach here where they all came together. There are associations that come together, so it depends what avenue you want to take with what you have! There are other connections that don't involved Spinetail, and another that might. This is what you've got:
1. Re: Cyberkinetic spine. You could continue to look into the cybernetics aspect of and the spine—cybernetics should have registration numbers that include date of manufacture. He'd need a doctor to find it for him, and someone to trace back that number. El could try to dig it up—we'll say right now that the number's been scrubbed, but some digging could unearth what it was meant to be, as well as who would have the ability to get one that isn't traceable. 2. Re: Earthquakes. Separately from the spine stuff, there's the connection of Project Spinetail and the earthquakes that Cassian came upon during his research. This veers in a little bit of a different direction than above, and involves with unearthing some of the details specifically about the earthquakes and their origin, and the function of Spinetail.
3. Re: Johann (who is confirmed to be JPG). This is somewhat related to Spinetail since he comes up there! He's sort of on the peripheral of Cassian's research, but has tied back to two aspects of that have been involved with it: Spinetail and the Displaced. It, by circumstance, links Johann back to the earthquakes, and then somehow back to the cybernetics. It's still vague, but there.
I think all three of these kind of tie in to make "the story of Cassian Andor's cybernetic spine" but fork out from the main question.
