Riverstone Info Dump Incoming ...!

Hi Tomato! Glad you asked.

In Meadowlark's world, corporations are shamelessly oligarchical in nature, and Riverstone is probably the most distinct example of that. While most companies have a Board of Trustees (Giles Bell, Vyonation, and Pulsar all fall under this), Riverstone has always been more of a top-down structure, with the CEO having the most power and being able to micromanage the daily functions of the corporation. This is unusual - and takes a great deal of training and preparation.

This is where we move into the Ling family. Since around the early 2000s, the Lings have run Riverstone. They purchased the largest amount of shares in the corporation at the time, and eventually ended up owning 95% of it by the mid-to-late 21st century (around when WWIII broke out). They've had a vice grip on it since.

Richard Ling was born on November 3, 2057 (10 years before WWIII started) to a family that was already cautious about AI and the movement toward extremely advanced automation in the world (utilizing advanced programs that would be developed and controlled by AI). He's the oldest of two children, though his younger sister (born two years after him) died during WWIII. He was raised and expected to go to college, get an engineering degree, and then an MBA. And he did all these things. In his early 30s, he really started making a name for himself, though his mother hadn't stepped down as the head of the company. She did five years before the start of the Xelkoven War. A notable fact is that the Ling name passed to him through his mother, as his father took his mother's name.

Now, in 2512, Riverstone knows that a lot of their success and prowess in the world is in part due to Ricky Ling's efforts in the Xelkoven War, but it's not something that's tossed around the company on a regular basis. For big days like Resolution Day, he's brought up in Riverstone, but otherwise, they're looking forward. That said, if asked, they would mostly refer to him as a mythological figure. Yes, they know Riverstone is what it is in a business way because of his efforts, but there would be a sense of awe in referring to him.

Meredith Ling is related to Ricky through a direct line that can be traced forward from Ricky himself. He's her (many greats) great grandfather. She's been in charge of the company for ten years, but was instrumental for about fifteen years before she stepped in as the CEO. Meredith is a rigid, no-nonsense woman who is very good at keeping Riverstone stable. She does have a social media presence, but it's largely pictures of food and the sunset off over the Pacific Ocean in New Beijing (where she lives year round). Her posts are captioned with one word statements, such as "Beautiful," or "Horizon," giving away little about herself in the process.
