• Born a member of the Congregation, had a secret younger brother no one was allowed to know about!!! Great, definitely not stressful at all.
• Mother dies when he's 9, father abandons him along with his secret baby brothercousin when he's 10.
• Kicked out of the orphanage at 15, starts Doing Crime to keep himself going until he can save up enough to take care of his cousin.
• That comes to a head when he and his cousin break into an old lady's house to retrieve stuff that belonged to their mother and said old lady dies in front of them. The police show up, and Sam ends up arrested for murder along with his B&E charge.
• Survives his first go at the Quarry (fog-making powers), gets a few advertising deals or w/e, but not enough that he stays out of trouble for more than a few years - at which point, he goes through and wins the damned thing again
• At that point, he's twenty and his cousin is fifteen, and it's increasingly clear to him that if he wants his cousin to thrive, getting himself killed probably isn't going to help, so he transitions into talent advisement.
• Once Nathan starts getting into the business (whoops), Sam stops advising randos as a mentor and devotes pretty much all of his time to making sure his cousin's okay and making as much bank off his notoriety as possible.
• So here he is, it's totally fine, he's a cog in a machine and he's Fine With It He's Normal Nothing's Wrong, look he took on this life for Nathan's sake, and for Nathan's sake, he'll be damned if it falls apart.
