Background:

• the only good thing that william's parents gave him is the ability to be a rook. he hates them otherwise and they him in return. their family strife is well known in aerie though everyone stays out of it.
  
• william projects the want to climb through the ranks and take his place as a cardinal but secretly, he does what he can to help those in the quarry because he knows he would have been there if not for his parentage. and he knows it'll piss his very law abiding and influential parents of.
  
• he comes off as aloof and brusque because he's really bad at being a person
  
• perpetually in the shadow of his powerful parents so most of what he does is to try and tick them off and get some attention
