jack, as the senior member of the kestrals, has probably done what he can to stop laura from completely throwing her life away via her anger, though he can also understand her goals and where she's coming from re: wanting to get to her spouse (while also secretly wondering if it's actually an unwilling thing that her spouse ended up as carrion...)

he'll also be going into the quarry, by his own design, so we can def do something with them!
