We'll be addressing this on the calendar in a day or two, but the answer is that there wouldn't be means of domesticating any of the wild animals. Aside from there most likely being no cat-like creatures in New Amsterdam at the moment, wildlife is highly volatile right now, and even if Nicky found means of calming a wild creature, there are no resources to care for or feed such animals. It'd be like having an exotic pet in today's world.
Veterinary care for dogs and cats is a highly specialized practice, and incredibly expensive. That means it'd not only be incredibly expensive and difficult to receive care for a cat, but critters like mites and fleas and other parasites can't currently be treated unless someone's willing to really open their pocket book for it. (Not to mention it'd be a wild animal in this case.)
That said, finding a consistent source of animal-based protein for food, as well as other materials necessary to care for a pet, such as litter boxes, are only produced by custom endeavors from specialized individuals. Large companies no longer produce mainstream pet care, as it's expensive and unsustainable for anyone not in the upper echelon.
Apartment buildings and small living spaces aren't equipped for pets of that nature either, and any building manager would not be happy to have tenants taking wild animals home.
