FEBRUARY 2021 CALENDAR
IMPORTANT OOC NOTES
◉ Our January Activity Check is up. Due to this month being the way it is (yeah hi there, 2021), AC will be check-in only. This is for new and old players alike! Halved AC will resume for February (10 comments over two threads).
◉ Applications are now open for business! We're at 53/60 players, and app acceptances will go out on February 10th. Go, tell your friends.
◉ That said, we have a new TDM with some interested players who need funtimes and samples! Give it a looksee if you have the opportunity.
◉ If you haven't signed up for a gold power, you're never too late. Feel free to head over to the Gold Power Approvals to do so! These are offensive powers acquired by the Displaced post-Aerie.
◉ With all the animals and wildlife emerging post-Aerie, we wanted to clarify that our intention with that was to push the idea of reclamation of nature. The wild animals are just that: wild animals. They're dangerous and have evolved beyond relying on humans to survive. There are opportunities to work with wildlife, but keeping them as pets is unsustainable. If there are any questions on pets, there's some information up on the setting page as well!
◉ For those who haven't seen it yet, there's a plotting post up for a possible trip to the mystery continent of North America. Take a look, possibly sign up, possibly discover new frontiers! There's also Quentin's quest, involving heading to the ruins to pick up some more relics to create new gates. The accompanying IC network post is right here.
◉ There are some player plots that will be forming in the next month or two, so keep an eye out for them! If you have something that you'd like to explore from the Event 11 Wrap Up, make sure to hit up Plot Engagement and we'll see how we can help to get things moving! There are a few plots that don't have footholds yet, so reach out to Plot Engagement if you're interested in gaining footing:
◈ The rebel group formed after the Kestrels in the real world needs support if it's going to survive! There's some room for different types of plot opportunities here for anyone interested.
◈ The uprising of the colonies will likely be the same! If you're interested in space exploration and the colonies, the fight for independence is also starting and there's some opportunities to head up there, especially with El and Cassius' help.
◉ Due to some real life stuff, the AMA and contact with Jimmy Henries this month will be postponed! It'll most likely be pushed back to March, but we'll let everyone know when things settle down. If there are any questions on this, please feel free to reach out on the Mod Contact. Thanks for understanding!
WEATHER: Sick of the heat? Well, it's still hot hot hot hot hot. The temperature is still upward of 85F – 90F, sticky and humid. The brief, heavy downpours don't stop, and are nigh unpredictable. It's best to bring something to cover your head if you head out.
NOTABLE NEWS:
◉ Per the summer months, water rationing is still in effect. Those staying in the safehouse have most likely made short showers into an artform at this point. There are hefty fines that come with overconsumption, so it might be time to hit up one of New Amsterdam's bath houses for a short shower and soak.
◉ With the animals wandering into the city, Lieutenant Governor Amabel Delafield-Chapin makes an announcement that new protections are in effect. Those that are in violation of these laws are subject to jail time or hefty fines.
◈ Hunting and slaughter of land animals within the confines of New Amsterdam is now prohibited and punishable by law. For anyone who wants to head outside the wall and hunt, that doesn't mean that it can't be done, but it'll have to be kept under wraps! Be careful.
◈ Wild animals are not to be held in possession by private citizens as pets. Most apartment complexes will be in compliance with this (as they're not equipped for it), and be confirming with their tenants if there's suspicion that an animal is being held.
◈ Moving, holding or harming animals in any way is now punishable by law. All stray animals that are confirmed as dangerous or as a nuisance can be removed by contacting the Department of Wildlife Protection and Services of New Amsterdam.
◈ Migratory birds are protected under law. This includes possession or hunting of these birds, and extends to prohibiting the collecting of bird parts: feathers, eggs, and nests. That means if a bird decides to nest in your window, you gotta deal with it. Bird is now boss.
◉ The Governers' office is looking to expand animal protections by creating an expanded Department of Wildlife Protection and Services! This body would oversee the further expansion of wildlife protections and ethics-related questions. They need more than just legislators, they'll also need those interested parties who wish to study and help relocate stubborn wildlife causing New Amsterdam trouble.
◉ That said, anyone who wants to fish in the river will need a fishing license! They can be applied for through application with New Amsterdam City Hall with the Department of Wildlife Protection and Services, which also involves paying a nominal fee. Fishing licenses dictate catch limits for protective measures, and set a number on how many can be caught. In this case, it's ten carp, or five of any other type of fish. This information will come along with the approval of the license.
◉ Of course, anyone who wants to fish will need gear, and there are temporary fishing and bait shops in the form of tents and trucks being set up all along the banks of the artificial river. Anyone who wants to appeal to the local restaurants by selling directly to the chefs will be happy to know that they'll be willing to offer food and credits for the "catch of the day." Happy fishing!
◉ As the food and restaurant industry in New Amsterdam gets up on its feet, there will be a special call for temp jobs! Anyone who needs some quick extra credits can pull their weight at a warehouse, in one of the hydroponic gardens (or regular gardens, for that matter), or helping to prep food at one of the local restaurants. No one will be that picky.
◉ The UN will launch the two branches of their Special Investigation Task Force: Research and Criminal Investigation. This is a special force made of former Shrikes from the Aerie, and they, like the Displaced, will have full memories of their training from there. The UN won't need to do much in that respect. They'll be highly efficient and dangerous, given full permissions to move through the world however they (and the UN) see fit. They won't be distinguishable from normal citizens during their investigations, and could be around the corner right now.
◉ Want to start exploring space? The colonies will be calling for people to help them to help foster their independence. That includes scientists, those competent in law, and those willing to lend time and resources toward their independence. This is still a potential player plot! El and Cassius will also be willing to help in this regard, as they're still quietly supporting the colonies, and can assist in finding the Displaced ways to get out into space.
◉ Many of the new worshippers are still trying to figure out the ins and outs of their new beliefs. Imagery varies widely between the murals and shrines, and some look incredibly disparate despite focusing on the same god. Because of the changes to New Amsterdam, like the wildly growing plants and new animals, plant and animal motifs are being heavily incorporated too, some associating certain animals or plants with specific Displaced. Feel free to play with this, and get in touch with us on plot engagement if you'd like your character to become involved somehow!
