EVENT 003 WRAP UP

> EVENT #003 WRAP UP

The aftermaths of the conflict between the UNA and Morningstar aren't felt until New Amsterdam's sun settles. NA's citizens will rise to find their neighbor's doors destroyed and their hallways littered with splatters of blood. Every route that brings people near the UNA base will be blocked and redirected. What won't be obvious to the citizens of New Amsterdam will be the success of the operations the night before. Most of the Morningstar contacts were rescued, and they dealt a considerable blow to the UNA in the process. They proved that they were fallible in a world where many see them to be invincible.

Anyone who tries to get close to the UNA base to see what all the commotion is about will find that there was some kind of explosion or accident – or both. The mechanical doors in the front of the warehouse were busted down, and many of the windows were shattered. There won't be any bodies, but the scrappy operation put together for the secondary leg of what was going on was successful.

None of the news outlets will cover what happened to the UNA base, instead reporting a situation with a mechanical failure, and subsequent explosion due to an electrical malfunction. One of the UNA soldiers who worked as a supervising engineer who died in the explosion will be plastered over news streams as at fault for negligence, as it will be claimed that the aforementioned machinery hadn't undergone its weekly maintenance check in over a month. Any other references to the day's events will be scrubbed away. Social media posts and accounts will be deleted. There will be no sign that the people of New Amsterdam should revel in an attack on the dangerous rebel group known as Morningstar. Social and political aftershocks simply won't be allowed.

Perhaps if things went well for the UNA, the news would be different. It's difficult to say. What would have been an easily managed operation went sideways, and now even the NAPD is fully aware of what happened, and how they had their hands tied as the citizens they're meant to protect and serve went missing – or worse. Though the UNA's algorithms will ensure that everything online is erased, that doesn't keep people from talking.

◉ There is no initial indication about who leaked the information, with the exception of the fact that some of the information is dated. There were several recently-recruited Morningstar agents who would have had peaceful nights if they hadn't been disrupted by the PCs. These agents will be allowed to return home after El and the rest of Morningstar's tech team finishes pouring over the security footage.

◉ Of the Morningstar contacts targeted, about 85% of them were rescued by the PCs. The other 15% were detained and taken away to an unknown and undisclosed location. It's safe to say that it isn't in New Amsterdam proper.

◉ The operation at the base went better than expected, but Morningstar lost a few agents in the process. Their bodies were not recovered. There will be no funeral services.

◉ Gaby will be transparent with everyone and inform them that, while she should have been targeted, her apartment was intentionally passed over. Despite that, she's possibly still at risk. Her working theory is her relationship with the PCs. El doesn't live in New Amsterdam proper, so there was no question of zeir exposure.

◉ As for the weapons obtained from the cache, they'll be stored in the cache that Gaby looted at the beginning of the attack. These weapons aren't being taken away to prevent their usage. Instead, some of the unfamiliar weapons require further research into how to handle them and what they can accomplish.

◉ With this explained, Gaby will pose and encourage the PCs to pursue a number of questions that come to mind: Why and how did these leaks happen? What is the UNA hoping to accomplish by securing that many contacts? What resource led their combatants to the base? Will other cities be attacked, or have they diminished the threat? Where are the others who were taken, and why were they taken? And finally: if Gaby was an exception, why didn't the UNA plan for the PCs' involvement, if not target them as well?

◉ Elsewhere in NA, the New Amsterdam Police Department appears to have had a wakeup call about what happened during that 24 hour period. While no one's officially saying they're powerless in the wake of what happened, they're abruptly aware of the fact that many of the crimes that may have taken place during that period of time may never be resolved. They'll be working on the backlog that hasn't been conveniently swept away, as well as desperately trying to catch up with anything that happened in the last 24 hours. This is a prime time to enroll, as they will be desperately looking for new recruits to push through the enrollment process.

◉ On a more political front, the UN Embassy will be in a dour and uncertain mood following the events. Needless to say, this assault was a failure, but not everyone in the City Hall or the Embassy would have supported an attack as radical as this one. There is dissension and wariness, at least when it comes to the extremity of response.

> MORNINGSTAR IN NEW AMSTERDAM

Following these events, Morningstar's involvement in New Amsterdam will be severely limited, as almost all of their agents and resources are housed in safehouses. There will be a planned venture in the near future to help escort the numerous people out of the city and to a new location, and their lives in New Amsterdam are over. The PC's safehouse does not house any of these contacts, as it gets too much foot traffic. While Gaby's well aware that the leaked information may include the other safehouses, everyone has to stay put until their escape plan is ready. That said, there are some NPCs who want to stick around and help the PCs. The lab contacts are especially appreciative, and they'll be moved underground nearby so they can continue to assist the PCs in a limited fashion.

These circumstances will change the picture for all of the PCs. Many of their invisible contacts who have been helping within New Amsterdam are now gone, but all of Morningstar's operational resources in the city still remain. Morningstar's overhead will stop all flow of information in and out of New Amsterdam, hoping to prevent any further leaks and protect their other operations in other megacities. Since all of Morningstar's infrastructure in New Amsterdam will remain, Gaby and El will propose a symbiotic partnership, albeit with the understanding that the PCs will help people who would be helped by Morningstar. At this stage, neither El nor Gaby believe the PCs are invested in helping their world or their mission, but they did help all of the Morningstar contacts with barely a thought and little time to organize, and it would be too risky to start everything anew at this stage.

This partnership would allow the PCs to have far more autonomy. What resources the PCs have gathered themselves will be called upon, and the PCs will largely be put in charge of their own fates from this point forward. El and Gaby intend to stay on to assist given their knowledge of the world. One of the key aspects of this will be the development of a new safehouse. There are a few Morningstar properties that haven't been developed for this purpose, and information will be made available to all the PCs about how to move forward.

What this will mean OOCly is that players will have a little more freedom to pursue plots in game. Without relying on the Morningstar crutch, they'll be given more leeway to sink or swim on their own. As long as the characters are willing to do something in return for Morningstar, their resources are at their disposal.

> POWER LEVEL UP

Whether someone has been here from the beginning or just arrived last month, they are eligible for a power level up here. The thread itself must involve utilizing their powers for at least 5 comments. The thread doesn't need to be 5 comments of them utilizing their power, but showing that it was present for at least some of the thread and impacted the situation on display. Threads must reach the 5 comments and be submitted here by February 23rd.

To put in for your power level up, please comment with the form below.

After we have approved your level up, you will be able to submit it on the powers page to level up your character's power at any time.

> NOTES

There are a lot of plot hooks left hanging from the recent events and arrival logs, so we encourage you to bring any and all plots you have in mind to our plot engagement post. This event resulted in a major status quo shift for the characters that developed organically thanks to character response over the last few months. Now that we're entering our sixth month, we're really excited to see where people take things.

Thank you all once more for plotting on the OOC event post. That helped us a lot in keeping track of what was going on, as well as helping link people up when they were exploring a plot.

Our next calendar will be posted on February 1st, with our next round of apps being processed on February 4th.

Not relevant to this specific vehicle, but--if he wanted to use a different vehicle to see if he could draw out the UNA, how would that go?

Considering how quiet the UNA was during the event, how footage was scrubbed just after El was able to get hands on it, he'll want to look into if the UNA has anything to do with their arrivals here, and if they're willing to try chasing them down.
