PLAYER PLOT: GANG WARS
Hello!
I know there's a Lot going on in game right now--but I wanted to give a heads up to those involved in underground circles as well as try and offer a good way to get involved with it, if people are interested!
Following the EMP event and the bad press that had come with it, Jason had approached El with a proposition: if El handed over the tech used to create the ID scrambling masks so Jason could figure out how they worked, as well as offered him a new ID to keep anyone associated with "Matches Malone" from getting targeted, Jason would work to relieve some of the bad press focused on Morningstar. This followed with Jason and Abel (adsero) working together to build ID scramblers completely unrecognizable as Morningstar tech and similar to Jason's favorite fashion statement. Recent plotting stuff found via plot engagement here.
Following building them, he approached Laura Moon (apathet), Takeshi Kovacs (resleeves), and Caroline Forbes (gasping) with lists of names and locations of Kings and Warlocks members he had been collecting since shortly after his arrival in game with locations they would be frequenting, and coordinates to leave behind to lead remaining gang members right to Jason himself. Every member targeted was among the scummiest of the leads. They all fit Jason's personal brand of people who deserve being murdered--so: sex offenders, drug dealers who picked on desperate mothers, those with a history of abusing their spouse/child. If there wasn't an official case against them, there was enough in rumors to make a good case.
(instead of going the easier route and killing them, they debilitated the gang members to the point that they would not be able to return to their post any time soon even given the advances in medical technology, on Gaby's request)
This led to taking down seventeen higher ups total among both gangs (let's say, nine Warlocks, eight Kings). On the same night, Jason used the coordinates to lead some of the remaining members (whoever showed up) to a nice warehouse where he then strong armed his way into telling both gangs that he was in charge now, and if they didn't like it they could just die or something.
All of this went down on November 27th between 1900hrs and 2200hrs. Anyone is free to recognize that after 1800hrs, Matches Malone became an inactive ID, and Jason Todd also appeared on the Morningstar network.
Jason also gave his name publicly on Damian's call for heroes and the announcement of Damian's own name. So, "Matches Malone" being "Jason Todd" is not really a secret anymore, and I'm completely down for anyone calling him out on it, and the suspicious timing of the attacks! Additionally, the ID of Jason Todd extends back a few months; Jason asked El to backdate some pictures of himself and Loki as to not raise suspicion to outside sources. Anyone is free to also recognize that Jason Todd's public persona does not even mildly match the kind of person Jason has been in game; his history points more towards high school jock, mildly successful during adulthood but quit his job a few months prior to uh. be Loki's housespouse. ICly, this was done so that Jason does not have to work to maintain much of his public persona; if no one expects him to have a job or do things outside by himself, there's no reason to really bother with it and it gives him a lot more time to focus on reforming the underground.
With this, I'm also completely down to expand their reach within the underground! During these first few IC weeks, the Kings+Warlocks are going to be a complete mess while they figure out how to restructure both gangs to shove them both into one and how to deal under new leadership. There will be a lot of rumors spreading around regarding promises "Red Hood" made to them when strongarming his way into leadership. Everything from how his tech is extremely advanced and he intends to help them become an even stronger organization, to how he's planning an attack against the UNA and intends to take over the government.
Given the mess of both gangs, getting in to them at this time may prove to be extremely difficult or extremely easy, depending on who a character approaches! There are also rumors going around about how Red Hood is looking for a right hand man and is pulling in some of the older gang members to figure things out with them.

→ At this time, both the Kings and the Warlocks are a huge mess; there's a lot of infighting, and a lot of struggle to maintain the place each member had before, but they're also fucking terrified of some asshole with supernatural powers who decided he's now their overlord, so it's a quiet struggle.
→ As they're both heavily involved in the fight rings, this may involve a more direct change of power over the rings themselves.
→ There are a lot of rumors going around about Red Hood's capabilities--some are absolutely ridiculous (I hear he killed an entire squad of UNA soldiers by barely lifting a finger!) and some are a bit more schemey (He promised us better tech, more money, and better targets!).

I'm so down for this. Worick comes from a city that's divided between three mafia families and worked his up up the ranks of one of them until his reputation became strong enough to go into business for himself. he's got a scary memory that basically allows him to remember every face or piece of information he comes into contact with. so he's basically a one-stop shop for dirt on everyone (tho he's still new to the game so he's going to have to rebuild his network BUT that is where these shenanigans come into play.)
I'm all for him starting in the lower rungs of the gang and working his way up. /eyes that right hand man position and bides his time

He can definitely start out on the lower end if you want. Alternatively, if Jason connects Worick to the displaced he might try and figure out a bit more what he's capable of and if he's someone Jason might have an interest in pulling on to his side of things.

I'd say Worick would be likely to play his status as a displaced close to his chest when not around other displaced that he knows. But it's possible we could find a work-around depending on the circumstances when they meet for Jason to find that out. If anything it could be as simple as him catching sight of the chest implant because Worick tends to keep his top shirt buttons undone or something.

cassius has given him this fake history, and i'll probably sit on it for a few more days to sort out how i wanna start making use of it in game (he did change his name to tony redgrave rip jimmy prickle), so perhaps gangs viewing him favorably could be a point to explore. IN ANY CASE... the two of them ought to run into each other and do some funky underground shenanigans together

starting around this month, octavia's going to be using the glow in her chest to round up members in the underground for her own gang of the disenfranchised and the forgotten — which is going to be a slow, gradual and difficult process. i need to hash out details further with the mods in plot engagement but her primary focus is giving said ppl (and herself) a purpose and place to belong, and targeting who she sees as corrupt/generally Bad People who have hurt others or the world around them to take them down :')
i'm not sure if this would be a roadblock/obstacle or a help, BUT i'm cool with anything and however it plays out!

he's 100% against people taking advantage of others and is going to be slowly weeding out the very bad eggs from the kings+warlocks as he slowly overtakes them, either through more violent means or by handing them right over to the NAPD--so he might try and hand octavia a few cookie crumbs if he figures out what she's doing and decides she knows what she's up to, also.
he also has a huge weakspot for people he considers kids (probably octavia in this instance) and would try to lend a hand elsewhere when he could as long as it stayed out of view from those he's trying to play kingpin over.

with that said, octavia is going to mostly avoid outright murder (thanks to a lot of ptsd, #healthy) where it isn't needed and resort to other methods (intimidation, blackmail, traps that set them up) where she can, if she can. i'm not 100% on that yet since she'll need to actually become decent at ducking surveillance and getting the equipment necessary for this, so i imagine she'll ...... be fucking up terribly more than once in the learning process. but it sounds like they're on very similar routes, so i can see them feeding information to each other back and forth to resolve what the other can't. a beautiful partnership in the possible making??
re: being lowkey, octavia won't out him, though she isn't going to be subtle herself about drawing attention to herself, so clandestine conversations and endeavors it is.

jason's avoiding murder for the most part too due to a request from gaby but he'll also have several people he can't touch since they're technically under him and still well-respected among other gang members even if jason himself hates them so passing information back and fourth sounds like an excellent plan
he's been around long enough to get the hang of where most the surveillance tech is too and can help octavia figure out how to avoid being seen. DEPENDING ON HOW THINGS GO he might try and give her an id scrambling mask somewhere down the line
