> EVENT #007 AFTERMATH

Late into the evening on January 25th and the early hours of January 26th, the operation to retrieve Judas will be complete. The ultimate conclusion was that Judas would be successfully retrieved and handed off to Cassius. As a result, any other options—namely: taking Judas for themselves or giving him to El—will fail, and those characters will come up empty handed. However, this does not count as reneging on the deal, so those individuals will still be able to retrieve their rewards from Cassius for a job well done. It seems that Cassius did factor in the likelihood that he might not be able to take Judas back into his immediate warm embrace, and solely hoped to free Judas from the UNA at this stage.

That's not to say that the operation is smooth sailing, however. Thanks to the numerous soldiers beginning to die from blood loss and injuries, the UNA will eventually be fully alerted about the threat on the base. Realizing that the terrorist attacks on the other side of the city are a decoy to divert their attention, they will begin to send back their soldiers to the base just before midnight. For some, this may seem like it's quite delayed because many of the soldiers in the base must have sent out a distress call. However, Cassius scrambled these signals and caused a delay in response.

When the soldiers return to the base, they will be far more lethal than the ones left behind. Fully armed and ready to kill, they will be shooting on contact with anyone who's inside. By that point, Judas will undoubtedly be in the hands of one of the Displaced. The goal at this point is to get Judas out of the base safely. He does not need to be taken out by the person who will ultimately deliver him to Cassius, as there's still room for conflict in the streets of New Beijing. That will ultimately be up to all of you!

A few quick facts before we move on:

◉ Cassius will be taking care of surveillance in and around the base,so there won't be any record of the invasion of the base. However, he can only expend so many resources, so he can't take care of everyone. While he won't say it outright, it might not be a bad plan to visit the lower levels of New Beijing on their routes back to their hotel rooms in order to keep a low profile.

◉ The soldiers showing up will be nigh impossible to defeat. They're armed and prepared for dangerous terrorists, so the characters will likely find themselves better off leaving.

◈ Their arrival is based on character action within the base. Since many of the soldiers were fatally wounded or outright killed, the ultimate "bound to lose" boss battle had to show up. However, no one is required to be hurt or killed by them, and can duck out safely!

◉ For anyone who is killed, their pals will want to get them to a medi-unit as soon as possible. Morningstar's chapter has a single medi-unit for use and it will be available, but anyone else will need to take the risk of heading to a hospital.

◈ As a reminder, medi-units are advanced pieces of technology that can bring someone back to life so long as they know the exact point of time at which they died. Cassius will have this information available.

◉ The delivery of Judas to Cassius will take place on January 27th. We'll outline how this will go below, but it will be a rare RNG plot opportunity.

> JUDAS DROP OFF

On January 27th, whoever currently possesses Judas will be sent a message by Cassius with a pin to a location where they're meant to meet one of Cassius' "resources." This dropoff of Judas will be metaplot significant. We have a signup below for anyone who took a deal from Cassius and would ensure that Judas gets to him after everything settles down. That means anyone on Team El or Team Take Judas for Themselves aren't available for dropping off Judas.

A few quick notes, and then a form:

◉ We intend for this to be a short thread because of the busy holiday season. At most, we think it will be 5 or 6 comments in total.
◉ Anyone who signs up will need to find a means to share this information with the rest of the playerbase. They don't need to post it themselves—we just want to make sure it eventually gets passed along to someone who will. If you need help with this, please let us know!
◉ Signups will take place until December 8th at midnight UTC. While this may delay some plans for aftermath, we want to make sure that people coming out of the holiday season can still get in on this action! We'll post a reminder midway through for anyone who missed it.

> CASSIUS DELIVERS

About a week after the handover of Judas, and after the Displaced return to New Amsterdam, the rewards start coming in. It seems like Cassius meant to keep his word. Keep in mind that some of these favors will be tied to Cassius' current status.

◉ Kol Mikaelson, Henry O'Connor, Catra, and Goro Akechi will all have a hefty stipend deposited into their personal bank accounts. For each of them, it will come from a manufactured source that's tied to a chain of shell companies. The stipend will not be paid in a lump sum, but will be delivered monthly on the 25th. It's enough to cover all upper-middle class comforts of living: bills, utilities and small pleasure for life in New Amsterdam. It will not be enough to afford every luxury—no fancy restaurants every night or penthouse apartments—but hey, treat yourself. Trying to trace the trail of shell companies and laundering accounts seems to be impossible for anyone that wants to try.

◉ Not far from the lap of luxury, Caroline Forbes will find a leasing agreement tied to her neural implant, and a message from an eager landlord who's gotten a three-months in advance payment (coincidentally, also tied to the maze of shell companies and laundering accounts) for an apartment that will have all utilities and rent paid on a monthly basis thereafter. The pros: It's a large, three-bedroom, two-bath, with high ceilings, tall windows, right on the top floor of a high rise apartment in one of the most sought-after real estate centers of the city. Yep, it even has a pool, hot tub, rooftop garden, and patio. The cons: It's literally right next to New Amsterdam's sports stadium. During the games, which may be in the day or nighttime, it's almost impossible to sleep from the noise anywhere between 1PM-3AM Enjoy!

◉ Both Takashi Kovacs and Tomoe Mikage will receive a text message with a single-use reply from Cassius' handle 100342. It will allow them to input a name and Cassius will reveal their location (within network resources) or non-location. Please feel free to drop by the Plot Engagement to use this favor!

◉ A company called DAQ Tech, a start-up company gobbled up as a subsidiary of Vyonation, will be reaching out to Alice Ginsburg on a very high recommendation as an IT Technical Support Officer. She came with a full and impressive resume (which will also be sent in a message to her from an untraceable source around the same time). The technology may be more advanced than what she's used to dealing with, so she'll have to adapt quickly or risk losing the position. We're rooting for you, Alice.

◉ Hoshiko and Helena will receive separate location pins on their neural implants from an unknown source. If followed, it will take them to a rather seedy part of the city's underground cave system. There will each find a small cache of weapons in a sealed box that opens with their neural implant signature. For Hoshiko: Five small explosives and two larger ones. The smaller ones are enough to use as a diversion, but are more showy than destructive. The last two are enough to take out a hover car. For Helena: Two guns and four military grade knives. These will be unregistered and untraceable. Remember ladies, weapons and explosives aren't allowed in the safe house.

◉ For Lottie Person, her brand new CoolTalk account will seem to amass a steady amount of followers every day. It seems like she's been showing up in search strings more than usual, and has even caught the attention of some of New Amsterdam's most acclaimed influencers. By the new year, Cassius will no longer need to intervene, and she'll have upwards of 100,000 followers gained by manufactured popularity alone. Keep up the content, Lottie!

◉ CW drug use: Klaus Hargreeves will receive notification that he's gotten approved for a steady supply of prescription painkillers for a manufactured ailment from a manufactured primary physician. He'll be able to get his prescriptions filled at any clinic or pharmacy. He'll have to be careful not to catch the attention of any doctors or nurses who may be concerned about his well-being due to frequency in visits.

◉ Cassius will ensure that Jack Morrison is able to remove the ALIGN implants from the UNA base and bring them back to New Amsterdam with no issue. The trackers will be further disabled, and will not be able to be re-activated. On top of this, the customs agents checking Jack's baggage on the trip back to New Amsterdam seem rather distracted from a few choice text messages where Cassius has masqueraded some personal drama to keep their eyes from scrutinizing Jack's belongings.

◉ Ren Amamiya will receive several long-form documents via a burner E-Mail with confidential information surrounding Project Spinetail. The documents themselves won't contain any full names, but there will be some familiar ones: JH and JPG, both of whom worked on the project in tandem to bring it to its completion. The goal of the project was to develop a piece of technology that would be able to "awaken" a lost "lifeform." The documents double as a non-disclosure agreement for all individuals who signed on, and none of their names are included. All employees joining the project would need to remain on site for the job in a lab located in the Mariana Trench, and would not be allowed any external communication during this time due to the discrete nature of the project itself. The execution of Project Spinetail was set to take place in June 2510, but was eventually pushed back to September 2510. The final document is a redacted company memo detailing the failure of Project Spinetail. The "lifeform" was not awakened, but instead was killed by the machine that was at the heart of Spinetail's work, and all employees on site were killed as a result. The laboratory itself was destroyed in the process.

◉ Next up is Laura Moon, who's looking for a particular coin that got lost during her arrival. Cassius will send her information from an internal source whose name has been completely redacted. It will say that while it cannot be confirmed, it's highly likely that any items left on individuals that have been received through Project Meadowlark were confiscated and still remain at the facility. There isn't any information on where that facility may be, and attempts to ask Cassius with turn into a very big shrug emote. The information also contains a hypothesis based on the results of a series of tests that say that there is a high statistical likelihood that it retains its original abilities, and is completely intact.

◉ As for Faith Lehane, she'll receive a heavily redacted document through a burner E-Mail about what Cassius believes she meant by "those who cut into her": One will include information on the raid that was held during the first drop off of new arrivals to New Amsterdam back on June 21st of 2511. There's no information about the facility that they were held before their removal, but there is a clear path to a warehouse at one of the more sparse ends of the city that was bought by a set of shell corporations that ultimately led to a dead end in Cassius' research. This warehouse has since been decommissioned and has been on the market for the past month. Cassius will also add that while he can't confirm the intention of those surgeons that installed the wetware for the neural implants, that he suspects they'd been used to collect several types of diagnostics. Cassius will also add his own thoughts: After the raid on June 21st, where the Displaced first met Morningstar, whoever was in charge of the deliveries of the new arrivals abruptly switched gears. From there on out, it seemed like they were all left within a vicinity to be found by Morningstar, who continually (and possibly unknowingly) extended their hospitality.

◉ And then there are the brain surgery buddies. Since this arrangement will be harder to pull off immediately, Gabriel Reyes, Daisy Johnson, and Hope Mikaelson will receive notifications from Cassius before they left New Beijing informing them that they'll be contacted in the latter half of February about their requests. Because the operation was so successful, they will be invited to bring along some friends if they'd also like to go through brain surgery. Like with the dropoff, this presents a unique plot opportunity for the playerbase, so we wanted there to be room for more people to get on board. This plot does depend upon IC invites, and those invites can only be given out by Gabe, Daisy, and Hope.

In addition, we will be informing all incoming players in December about this plot opportunity—unless, of course, you'd like to have your character do it! Let us know.

Due to the potential of body horror and invasive surgery, we ask that everyone who's interested in yeeting off into surgery head over to this post on the mod journal. This post is screened so that you can feel comfortable letting us know what you'd prefer that we do or don't do to your character, so we can begin to flesh out the plot. As an additional note, this plot will not grant anyone their canon powers.

As a final note, there is a delay on this because we didn't want it to happen over the holiday season!

◉ Finally, Peter Parker (Peter B. style) will find that he's off the lease for his apartment and that he's lost his job with Pulsar due to a series of complaints from his coworkers about his behavior, making it so that he'll have a nearly impossible time finding another job like that. Oh, and his bank account has been emptied. He'll receive notices about all of this about midway through his return to New Amsterdam. That Parker luck got to you again, Pete! And please feel free to reach out to us if you need us to adjust this in any way!

> RETURN FROM NEW BEIJING

In short, everyone will have tickets to return from New Beijing on January 28th. The train will be an express one between New Beijing and New Amsterdam, preventing any possibility for anyone sabotaging the trip. Cassius isn't calling anyone out for being a troublemaker, except that he totally is.

Anyone who picked up new things in New Beijing will need to declare them in customs. This declaration won't cause too many problems. However, if someone's trying to get back with weapons or illegal goods, they may face arrest for trying to get them out of the city. It might not be worth the hassle of trying to carry it back to New Amsterdam.

Whether someone has been here from the beginning or just arrived last month, they are eligible for a power level up. The thread itself must involve them utilizing their power while they're in New Beijing, and the thread itself must be at least 5 comments. Now that we've come to the end of this event, we're going to use it as a model for all of our future events. We'll still run according to an every other month schedule, but the events and their buildup may have some more parts than we've had in the past, leaving room for characters to fully impact the way that things are going and hopefully offering our players some more room to breathe in the process. Our next event is scheduled for January. As a spoiler, both the RNG opportunity and brain surgery side plots are likely to factor into what goes down with that, and we may have to adjust scheduling accordingly so that players can feel like they're involved. Participation in either is not mandatory for the January event! It's just that information is likely to come out to compel the Displaced to act in one way or another. The size of Meadowlark allows us the flexibility for this, so we're hoping to take more advantage of it in the upcoming months. As always, we'll always communicate any changes to the playerbase as needed.

1) i assume it is possible to upload/update software remotely? but only the user can do so. could an adept hacker feasibly update malware to an implant remotely without notice?

2) to that end, would we have time to look into whether or not ALIGN-style software is being put on non-UNA implants? i know this was a plot thread that was discussed several months ago, the presumption that the UN would be gradually and quietly expanding the program.

3) is brain surgery required to figure out if ALIGN is on someone's implant and remove it, if so?
