MARCH 2020 CALENDAR

> MARCH 2020
MARCH 16TH – MARCH 31ST

IMPORTANT OOC NOTES

◉ Our Activity Check for February is up! Current characters will need to provide 20 comments across 2-4 threads, while new characters (accepted on February 8th) will only need to provide 10 comments across 2-4 threads. This activity check will encapsulate the dates February 1st – February 29th.

◉ Although March is typically our event month, we're changing things up. We've already seen that giving people space to breathe has also helped propel personal and metaplot discussions a great deal, so we want to give a little more room for that. As a result, we will only have a mini-plot drop in March. For our newer players, we had a facet of our June 2019 event that focused on providing players with plot tidbits. We're aiming to do something similar this month—but it will depend on player interest.

How will we gauge that? On March 16th—time permitting—we will be putting together a post with very similar content to what's available under the "Looking Forward" header on our most recent aftermath post. We'll have players both sign up and discuss angles they'd like to take. We didn't provide a very clear direction for discussion for our "Declare Interest" thread, so this is us going back to the drawing board to approach it from a different angle.

The mods will be participating and helping people out in this post, similarly to how we ran the Rapid Plot Engagement, only it will be more focused on integrating players into the metaplot as a whole, and figuring out a roadmap for the next six months with regards to events.

In addition, we'll be asking what kinds of events you'd like to see (that we can adapt to the metaplot and make it Meadowlark-y), as well as what events you think would help propel your personal plots, based at least in part on what's come before. There will be a header for these things so we can hear you guys out. If this means rehashing some events from the past as a repeat or redux, we're game!

◉ Otherwise—take this time to kick back, develop CR, and explore the world!

◉ Outside of the metaplot, we want to help players on our Plot Engagement page. Want your character to develop an NPC adversary? Want them to rush into politics? Want to know what happens if they get arrested at this stage, because they got caught doing vigilante activity? We're here for you. Want some more bits of the world fleshed out? We're here for you, too. You can ask for anything!

◉ Finally, with the fast travel option now open, we want to point people to our Locations page. We're eager to work with everyone to expand on city details! Let us know if you're interested.

WEATHER: Ah, you know that time in March when the weather turns, but you know it's a lie? No can do here in New Amsterdam. The turn from chilly to warmer weather is near instantaneous, with temperatures around the 60s and 70s around the clock. It's very, very dry outside.

NOTABLE NEWS:

◉ St. Patrick's Day is here! This holiday is both treated as an occasion to drink a lot of alcohol and wear green, as well as remember the country of Ireland that's now hidden under the Atlantic Ocean. On this day, it doesn't matter if someone does or doesn't have Irish heritage. The primary focus for New Amsterdam citizens is remembering the parts of Europe that were lost to the effects of climate change and the disaster of World War III.

◉ Despite the fact that there isn't any rain, the green plants in New Amsterdam keep on growing! What does that mean? Well, without the frost in the evenings, pollen is out and having a party in people's sinuses. Allergy season is officially here! If you didn't hit up your doctor before for some preventative treatment, you'll want to try to get some prescriptions now. The frost in the evening was keeping things in check, but now all that pollen is out of control.

◉ The New Amsterdam Koniki—the local baseball team—has their home opener on March 22nd! It's spring time, everyone. Come, watch the game, eat popcorn, and enjoy yourselves. Tickets are hard to come by for Opening Day, and it does mean that the stadium is going to be fairly loud until September.

◈ Baseball statisticians have projected that the Koniki will be quite good in the 2512 season! Part of the reason is because they signed a pair of aces: Osamu Kawakami and Jim Bridges. The two of them are each worth around 8 wins each, helping the Koniki to a better record than their barely above .500 record in 2511.

◈ The Koniki are run and operated by the Pulsar Board of Directors. As a result, sometimes the maintenance of the team can seem as if different people are running it with different goals. Sometimes they just want profits. Sometimes they want to win. And sometimes they believe one leads to the other.

◈ Their colors are primarily orange and white, with a little blue sprinkled in.

◉ Spring is here! Fertility symbols begin to spring up around the city, both as a part of the shrines depicting the Displaced and individually. There are quiet spring celebrations all around. They aren't meant to draw attention, but if someone is seeking out the folk behind the shrines, they may be able to find the yellow brick … eggs? Oh, yes. There are a lot of eggs.

◈ The shrines were first depicted in our 6th Arrival Log.

◉ With the help of Marcos Diaz ([personal profile] heliophilous), Morningstar is getting legwork done around the city. Anyone who's signed up already probably has some additional tasks delegated to them. Now that there are more active members in the city, recruitment is properly under way. Anyone who joins up will see videos of the UNA HQ attack and show how effective the Displaced were in infiltrating the location. The general gist? The UNA is beatable, as long as they believe they can be. And if they are, so is the corporate hellhole that is the United Nations government.

◈ If you'd like your character to join up with Morningstar, hit us up here!

◉ Many of the staff members of Katelin Jovavich's campaign are beginning to jump ship, either to look for jobs with gubernatorial candidates in other cities, or with Simone Durcell and Joseph Lynch. While this is happening, the information around it is on lockdown.

◈ As a note, the basic rundown for all three candidates is here, and always reach out to us if you'd like more information!

◉ Thanks to the odd string of conspiracy theories and memorials, footage has begun to be released from the Mars colony, all of it seeming to be recent. There are, in fact, diplomats there trying to bring forward peace talks, and there are silent videos of these proceedings. "No, Mars is not dead." Conspiracy theorists believe that the videos are doctored, but there are social media accounts backing up the attempts at peace talks. They aren't terribly happy with how they're going, however.

◈ The Outer Worlds Foundation charity auction has done a great deal in supporting the people of Mars, and supply shipments have already gone out to the colony. While there will be freighters going out to the other colonies, Mars was left without renewed supplies for some time.

◉ Soldiers continue to be shipped out to New Beijing regularly, though someone would need to have near constant surveillance on any of the UNA bases around the 104 megacities to notice this movement. This is possible within New Amsterdam. If anything, it looks like this movement should be coming to a halt. Anytime it seems like it's waning, another hundred soldiers are shipped on a train to New Beijing.

DROPS: Caroline Caldwell, Elizabeth Comstock, Juno Steel, Klaus Hargreeves, Laura Moon, Peter Parker, and Wally West all disappeared in the last two weeks.
