APRIL 2020 CALENDAR
IMPORTANT OOC NOTES
◉ Our Activity Check(-in) for March is up! You do need to check-in to remain in the game, but—given circumstances—we won't be removing anyone who forgets to check in, and will reach out to them!
◉ For the month of April, we will be halving AC requirements. What this means is that new players will only need to provide at least five comments across two-four (2-4) threads, while older players will only need to provide ten comments across two-four (2-4) threads. Players with strikes will need to provide 20 comments across four-five (4-5) threads. Please let us know if you have any questions about this!
◉ Once again, we want to bring attention to the Metaplot Engagement post, as well as our summary plurk with some mod tidbits to help bring some eyeballs to plots and ideas people have suggested! We know we've been bringing a lot of attention to this, but that's because we want to make sure we're creating plots that cater to your interests!
◈ If you haven't signed up for a plot tidbit yet, please go ahead! If you aren't certain of a choice, please feel free to ask to be randomized.
◈ We're also going to give incoming newbies a chance for plot tidbits when they get accepted, and that will be a part of their acceptance notice.
◈ Plot tidbits will be sent out over the course of the month of April! We're going to get them done by the end of April, but we've divvied them up amongst ourselves and will release them as they're completed on our end! This should give everyone a chance to chatter about them all month.
◉ Our May event will be a take on the Human/AI war from the end of the 21st century. We're drawing in some thoughts from the thread here. We will provide full opt outs, and it will take place in a VR simulation that pulls the citizens of New Amsterdam into it against their will (so there won't be any world or city destruction), but will involve characters locked away from the outside world, with some of them working from the outside. There will also be chances to push forward some player plots. We're going for some gritty, darker cyberpunk for this event! We'll be posting the planning post for this on April 13, 2020 to give our players plenty of time to plan, and it will be taking place over the majority of the month of May.
◉ Want to get some player plots going? Not sure where to start? Our previous Rapid Plot Engagement shows some of the various avenues that you can take in game. After giving that a look over, head over to the Plot Engagement page. These are just some avenues as examples—we're always willing to develop plots out of nothing for people if you have a specific path in mind, but don't know where to get started!
WEATHER: It's picnic time in New Amsterdam! Lots of people will be hitting the skyparks around the city. Weather is in the 70s during the daytime, and the temperature only drops to the 60s in the evening.
NOTABLE NEWS:
◉ An unexpected result of the greenery around New Amsterdam? The city has now become the biggest exporter of compost around the world. It just also means that there's entirely too much compost. Places that used to take in compost are now turning it away. Please, no more!
◉ Along those same lines, the various greenhouses around the city are experiencing a massive surplus of fruits and vegetables. At the beginning of the influx of massive greenery, the owners of these greenhouses were thrilled. They could grow non-native fruits and vegetables out of season, purely because whatever changed in New Amsterdam would make it possible for just about any kind of greenery to grow. However, now there's entirely too much. Fruits and vegetables are starting to go rotten, and they can't be used for compost because there's entirely too much compost. The upside? Fruit and vegetables are extremely cheap right now. Continue to swim in Dole whip, New Amsterdam.
◉ The New Amsterdam Koniki are on a losing streak, having lost the last five games. The main cause? Terrible defense, with offense that only seems to get hot in the second half of the games. The pitchers are doing quite well, but have very limited run support.
◉ Now that things seem to be calming down around New Amsterdam (insert foreboding music here), insurance premiums aren't showing any sign of going down. Renter's insurance, car insurance, and life insurance are at all time highs. Journalists begin to send a string of questions to the three gubernatorial candidates to ask them how they intend to lower these costs.
◉ Surprising many, gubernatorial candidate Katelin Jovavich releases a plan on April 5, 2512 to combat poverty and homelessness in New Amsterdam. It's a plan that also has built-in clauses to ensure that these people aren't left out to dry in the event of further catastrophes, building emergency housing, as well as creating community living situations where the impoverished can live without remaining on the street. This plan involves an increase of jobs in the city, as well as offering PRESERVE volunteers permanent and paid positions. Her plan involves a lot of numbers and clear policies, but doesn't seem to involve a lot of heart. Critics of Jovavich repeat this again and again; PRESERVE, however, switches gears from seeming to be on a path to endorse Joseph Lynch, and instead endorses Jovavich in light of her sound plan that puts them front and center in solving some of the societal ills in New Amsterdam.
◈ Jovavich's opponent, Simone Durcell, comes out with striking opposition to Jovavich's plan on April 12, 2512. Durcell breaks down the numbers, pointing out the low likelihood of there being space for Jovavich's plans as things currently stand in the city. Durcell further points out that Jovavich likely only cares about big businesses in New Amsterdam given her long-time affiliation with Pulsar, and that this is likely a bid to keep attention off how Jovavich has mishandled the people out on the colonies since she took her position as the head of the Terraforming Division at Pulsar. Durcell points out exactly how bad Jovavich has been at changing the approach to training and personnel out on the colonies, directly causing the riots on Mars.
◈ One day later (April 13, 2512), Joseph Lynch only points out Jovavich's reluctance to do charity work around the city, and asks that she begin to put forth money and assistance to PRESERVE regardless of her chance to win as a candidate.
◈ As a note, the basic rundown for all three candidates is here, and always reach out to us if you'd like more information!
DROPS: Attolia, Arastra Ecces, Ginia, Henry Cooldown, Clark Kent, Hope Mikaelson, and John Murphy all disappeared in the last two weeks.
