SO North America is pretty interesting at the moment! This is an ooc post so anyone with characters who are interested in going there for whatever reasons can post and chat and organise how things could happen.

From the mods, when I asked on the plot engagement:
Essentially, we want getting to North America to be a gamewide plot, and that will be the easiest way to accomplish it because of the logistics. A bus/car definitely won't get anyone there. A boat is an option, but he'd need to figure out a way to acquire one that's up to the journey and amass a "crew" who has the skills and know-how to actually sail a boat such a long distance. Anyone involved in this will need to be careful because of the UN's surveillance drones and possible boat routes. Plus, who knows what's waiting for them when they get to their destination?

The main question:
HOW to get there (without being stopped/help up/spied on by the UN)?
flying seems to be the fastest way, with people's various powers to help avoid the UN, but getting a boat might be easier than getting a plane, and there are various people who have boat-skills

Other question:
WHAT are they looking to find answers to?
WHERE in North America are they going to?
WHO is interested in going? How many people can go based on the means of transport?
    Especially looking for people with powers that could help them avoid any kind of surveillance getting out of the city or while traveling
Who's going to pay for it all???

So!! I've got Thor who is interested in going because Thor enjoys a good adventurous/perilous voyage, he thinks there might be answers to questions about gods to be found,

and he thinks a good option for getting there is a boat, which he is confident in sailing.

yennefer has been wanting to go to north america specifically to set up a save haven for displaced that the UN's society doesn't exist at, basically setting up a gate so they can easily return if needed to retreat there. so she'll be on the lookout for a gate to activate and a place to set up as a home base

she can maybe talk to governor lynch about getting money for it but would be reticent because that would ... tell the people she wants to hide from ... where to find displaced.

jyn definitely wants to go to north america! she won't be super useful with sailing, but she does have water powers so also maybe she will be super useful???? we just don't know.

anyway she is looking for why america got nuked because that is a huge unanswered question that stupid akechi put in her mind and also if it is feasible to ...move there.

maybe someone with invisibility powers can hold her hand and they can c-c-c-c-combo power to make the boat or w/e invisible? (or invisibility and air powers or invisibility and........ wood powers? look! i'm winging this!)

water powers would be excellent and very helpful! thor's got very slight weather powers so he could work on clouds/obfuscating long distance cameras? that won't help with other types of UN surveilance though

cassius could maybe help with catching anything they don't manage to cover up so they could ask him to keep an eye out.

jyn would also suggest hook for this because he is a pirate on an actual water ship

Wade'd be interested in going to North America because I mean... gotta see how the motherland is doing in the future or whatever the fuck this is (spoilers, probably not great).

He has some nautical experience, but where he really shines is providing a distraction/crowd control in case they do happen to get spotted by surveillance. Probably gonna need some muscle on this mission, right?

cassian is invested, and i also spoke to the mods about this plot!! 👀

he, jyn, and tony stark came very very close to it when they took cassius on an adventure from the tip of south america and hiked up through the woods where he... got flown away by some drones to his new home. their theory is north america is where el and cassius are, though they won't share this, not without the okay from both ai for their safety/security.

the space between south and north america, from the northernmost tip of south america, is just an array of scattered islands and expansive ocean. central america and the northern part of south america are underwater and virtually inaccessible via land or boat from the way it's currently established geographically! new bogotá is the northernmost city and has shifted thanks to the rising sea level, and it's about 700 miles from where panana city used to be. SO THEY'LL NEED... A VERY BIG BOAT... if boating is the way to go. he and jyn will explain the geography if/when asked (under the guise of a hiking trip)!

the UN is also monitoring the coastline of north america. maybe... they can? fly in??

in some of the leaked emails from cassius in the past, there were also reports of exploratory drones being shot down so!! something!! is there!!

but what about a FLYING BOAT???

flying would be much faster than sailing, which means less time for them to be spotted by UN surveillance. also, would it be worth asking cassius or el to interfere with that surveilance or know of ways to do so?

also is there a danger of being shot down by whatever shot down the exploratory drones?

there may be displaced powers that can help with keeping things hidden, though cassius and el are good options too (assuming... they support anyone coming over).

QUENTIN CAN POTENTIALLY HELP WITH SURVEILLANCE. I'd have to see what is possible, but he can control what is seen on reflective surfaces, he can put illusions over them. So depending on what's allowed, if they put something reflective around the ship, he could make it look like nothing is there at all. Obviously I do NOT know if that is possible with surveillance, it's just an idea I've been bouncing around.

Bellamy's strengths lie more in the practical stuff, like hunting/survival/first aid, which could help a lot if North America is as bad off as everyone says it is. Also he knows a decent amount about radiation poisoning? I mean, it's CW psuedoscience radiation poisoning but listen.

Kai would want to got to North America because it's home and there might be monsters which makes it feel even more like home. But he's probably not a great candidate for any boat adventures, given the fact that he can't swim. He's also still baby in terms of working with his powers.

Nate has wanted to go back for a while - and why not now, when his suddenly increase in recognizability thanks to the Aerie is at its peak - and would absolutely be willing to help out. He has nautical experience with sailing, marine salvage, and generally knowing his way around a boat, used to professionally Find Places That Were Difficult To Find, and his power is literally...extremely good luck he can now influence consciously, so that could be helpful!

If we end up doing something that flies, he at least has experience flying planes as well. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

he would be happy to use his charmspeak to kind of have some people turn a blind eye to their activities temporarily. hopefully just long enough to escape detection or, like, yeet away from danger

Jon has been recruited by Yennefer for this mission (like a fool, he thinks he owes her one), but he would probably go anyway, especially since Quentin is going.

He has super strength (his Battle Spirit is stronger than everyone else’s, because his base “blue” ability is nearly identical at level 1, but branches in a different direction), general outdoorsmanship (ranging, hunting, fishing, etc.), and the gold power I still need to sign him up for. More than that, he also has experience exploring an area that might have some nasty surprises in it.

It is possible that some of this could come up in his existing conversation with Thor! (Which I need to hit; I’ve just been really, really sick this past week. Regular bronchitis relapses for the last couple of months.)

IDK how they’re going to pay for it. He’s currently voting that they choose trustworthy associates over well-funded ones, if they have to decide.

Clarke definitely wants to go on this mission for selfish reasons! She's good at the same stuff as Bellamy (but better because she was first in class and he was second), and is pretty good with the geography of ... another bombed radiation wasteland America ... so there's that. She can't help much with sailing, but she'd be down to lead a team in some direction when they get there.

Where Clarke goes, so goes Lexa. She is an extremely skilled warrior and used to live in a version of eradicated North America. She's an expert survivalist and hunter! She has selfish reasons for being there too.

Her power is fire bending so at least they won't have to worry about getting fires. ;)

His gold power removes all oxygen from the vicinity so if they run into any drones he can wipe those out quick. If... everyone else doesn't get too close.

jack would definitely be interested in going if this came up as a potential plan / idea among the displaced. by which i mean he hasn't been that focused on it but if people were chattering about it on the network he'd throw his hat in. he's curious to see what state the US is actually in since at the end of the day it's home... i guess...

powers wise, he has persuasion which means he can order people around. probably not SUPER useful unless their plan involves need to get access to somewhere/something and he could talk his way through it, essentially. maybe useful for a small part of the setup, SHRUGS?

otherwise, he's down to shoot down drones, though idk if that'd help a ton. but, you know, maybe?
