EVENT 001
> EVENT #001 | |||
As the night hours begin to ebb and dawn comes on June 27, the whole city begins to experience increasingly strong ground shakes. The earthquake sirens are activated, alerting everyone to head to the designated safe spaces. The occupants of the Morningstar safehouse will be woken, but assured that the whole bunker has been built and reinforced to withstand any quakes. However, it soon becomes apparent that this is not a quake. As the sun rises, a colossal creature is illuminated, approaching the city from the east. This sighting – and threat – is completely unprecedented, but the fear suddenly gripping the city doesn't boil over into panic until the creature breaks through the city's outer wall and begins to tear a path of destruction through New Amsterdam.
| |||
Though the occupants of the safehouse will be kept informed of what's going on above ground, the safehouse will continue to follow quake protocol and attempt to wait the incident out. This will become untenable when, 20 minutes after the creature breaches the wall, it crushes and knocks aside the warehouse above, leaving the safehouse partially exposed, insecure, and no longer structurally sound. At this point, Gaby will instruct everyone to follow her. They need to abandon ship and move to another location – another safehouse, about two miles away on foot. Of course, whether characters choose to follow her is up to them. No longer contained to the safehouse, and with the city in chaos, their instincts may pull in a variety of directions. PROTECT - while player characters may be of a different mind, the native occupants of the safehouse are only interested in following Gaby to safety. Even with her knowledge and expertise, getting two miles through the city in the chaos will not be easy. The party will need protection from creature attacks, help navigating the damaged streets and buildings, and assistance in not being apprehended by the authorities.
> NOTES | |||
The attack on the city will last roughly 24 hours in IC time, from early June 27 to June 28. In OOC time, it will run from August 18 to August 24. An OOC EVENT WRAP UP post will be made on August 25 to cover the aftermath. Characters will continue to have access to the network throughout the event, no matter where they are in the city. As this is our first event and many characters haven't even discovered their powers yet, there are no power level ups available with this event. We want to be clear that the above is a basic structure. If you want to go outside of the box, have any ideas on how your character could take on the big monster, or want to take the opportunity to investigate the city and grill some citizens for info, please feel totally welcome to discuss them with us in the questions thread below!

— re: improvising weapons, would there be wire/cable of any kind at the og safehouse?
— re: stealing cars, I know you mentioned 'technical know-how' when Jem asked. do you mean it's def possible for the New Kid Nerd Quad to hack the locking mechanisms or very unlikely, given how advanced the system is? Fitz has tinkered with neural tech/cybernetics before, but none this advanced!
— re: monster physiology, what do the monsters bleed... and can Fitz scoop up a chunk of dead monster flesh to bring back to the safehouse for analysis?

- Only in the walls as part of the safehouse's electrical and general systems cabling. Some may be exposed when the safehouse is damaged, but it would still be a little difficult (and potentially dangerous) to get a good length of it free.
- It would be very unlikely for Fitz to be able to hack the locking mechanisms, as this would be a difficult task for even a native hacker. A more physical approach will be necessary - think hotwiring a car, though with unknown and significantly advanced tech.
- The monsters bleed a fluid which glows the same gold color as their eyes but behaves much like normal blood in its viscosity and speed of coagulation. Fitz is welcome to try bringing some monster parts back, but Gaby will not let him into the safehouse with it, because ew.

This is all fab! Thank you.
