> EVENT #001 WRAP UP

Mid-morning on June 28, a group of player characters come together with a daring attack and take out the giant creature in an outer district in the north of the city. The body's collapse crushes several more buildings, but eliminates the core ongoing threat. The UNA and NAPD, now able to focus their forces, are able to declare the city clear of the smaller creatures within the next few hours. The terrifying event which has beset the city for the last 24 hours is now over, but the impact will take a lot longer to recover from. ◉ Rescue and recovery services come out in full force, searching damaged buildings and rubble for casualties as well as checking still-standing buildings for structural safety. Some people are allowed to return to their homes, though the process is slow. Many remain in the quake shelters. ◉ A preliminary death toll of 120 is announced. Governor Gill-Jade holds a press conference, speaking of the city's loss and the need to rally in the clear up and rebuilding efforts. ◉ The mainstream news feeds notably do not mention specifically how the large creature was brought down, nor show any footage of the final attack – only looping previous footage as well as a some (censored) footage of the corpse. Implications are strong that the UNA were successful in their efforts. ◉ Instances of other footage featuring the real attack begin to emerge on social media, however. An influx of theories and questions about the people who staged the attack will rise, complete with conspiracy theories, fans and detractors. Many of the posts are removed within hours, accounts locked and deleted, but some persist and the rumors grow. What just happened was terrifying, and that some unknown, unidentified people swept in and saved the day is inspiring to some and suspicious to others. All agree that the whole thing is freaky as hell.

> THE SAFEHOUSE

Both Gaby and El relay and express thanks to all characters in the safehouse for their quick thinking and actions during the event in helping the other safehouse occupants as well as the citizens of New Amsterdam. The group who took on the larger creature will be thanked as well, though some caution will be expressed that they should not have taken such a risk - to themselves physically as well as in garnering so much attention. Whether time enough has passed or that character action during the event has won the trust necessary, El is finally cleared to prepare characters for free interaction with society. Characters's IDs and backgrounds are created, and the secure network is set up.

> CHARACTER IDS ◉ Character IDs will be created using the name they provide to El. It will be made clear to them that this will essentially be their new, permanent name for all things in this world. They will have a chance to amend this from what they may have first introduced themselves as. ◉ El will also ask for a quick rundown of characters's backgrounds and skills, so as to set up a complementary false history for them that will allow them to find work within a suitable field. ◉ Characters reticent to share such information will find themselves with something randomized, less robust, or a patchy, 'jack of all trades' history. ◉ Players are free to use their discretion on the contents of their characters's false history, as long as it's reasonable and solid as an ID. Please let us know if you need any pointers or ideas!

Once their ID is created, characters will have leave to come and go from the safehouse. However, it will be made explicitly clear that anyone who outs Morningstar's involvement, leads anyone back, or tells anyone of the safehouse's location will be putting the entire safehouse at risk. In the event of a leak, Morningstar will take any action necessary to protect its people. ◉ It will be impressed that even speaking about Morningstar in public carries heavy risks and will likely draw attention from the NAPD and UNA if not outright arrest. ◉ Characters will be granted a small allowance of credits in order to make a start in the world, but it will be made clear that they are not expected to live in the safehouse or on Morningstar's dime forever. Time to start looking for a job and a place to live. ◉ Gaby will also begin to come and go from the safehouse, given leave to take some time off for herself. A couple of other Morningstar agents will begin to visit, bringing supplies to stock the safehouse and speaking with the native occupants, but they will not give names and will tell characters that Gaby and El are to be considered their 'handlers'. Any characters who have not yet returned to the safehouse will be faced with the difficulties and dangers of being out in the world with no ID.

> STRAYS ◉ Closed doors of public access buildings will not register them as safe and will not open for them. This includes public transport as well as stores, restaurants and bars. Should doors already be open, however, they will be able to get inside. ◉ As money is tied to neural implants, they have none and will be unable to buy absolutely anything. It will be noted that their implant is unregistered should they get to the point of attempting to pay for anything. ◉ Should they cross an NAPD officer's line of sight, their implant will be 'seen' as being unregistered. They will be pursued for arrest. ◉ Many members of the public, should they become aware that they have an unregistered implant, will report them. ◉ On top of the pressing threats of the above, the secure connection El made with characters's implants will remain intact. They will receive frequent, large messages from El ranging from the more serious of "You'll be safe if you come back." and "The cops have a report matching your description again." to "I heard there's chicken for dinner in the safehouse tonight. Hungry?" or "Figured out how much it sucks yet?" Though they'll be able to dismiss the individual messages once received, they will not be able to block them.

It will become clear relatively quickly that survival outside the safehouse with no ID will be impossible and that evading arrest forever will also be impossible. Characters will expected to return on their own once they have reached their limit off the back of this conclusion. If this would still not provide sufficient motivation for your character to return, please let us know so we can work with you on what to do next!

We recommend that all interested applicants and new players get their applications in by September 2 so they can assure that their app is reviewed in time. As a reminder, we run on a bimonthly event schedule, which means there will be no big event next month, though there will be some smaller things happening throughout.

Books are only published in digital form, so there are no more bookstores or libraries in the world. Most books for the past two and a half millennia are digitized, with some exceptions that may have been lost before they could go through the process. Keep in mind that even the Catholic Church has undertaken a thorough digitization process recently in our time, so a great deal of information is available online.

Various companies allow customers to borrow books through an online membership with their sites, with some requiring customers to pay a monthly or yearly fee to borrow more books per month. These services account for the vast majority of recently published works. However, there are a lot of works available in public domain, such as encyclopedias, dictionaries, Shakespeare's works, various translations of Homer's pieces, the complete collection of Hemingway's novels, and more.
