EVENT 001 WRAP UP
> EVENT #001 WRAP UP | |||
Mid-morning on June 28, a group of player characters come together with a daring attack and take out the giant creature in an outer district in the north of the city. The body's collapse crushes several more buildings, but eliminates the core ongoing threat. The UNA and NAPD, now able to focus their forces, are able to declare the city clear of the smaller creatures within the next few hours. The terrifying event which has beset the city for the last 24 hours is now over, but the impact will take a lot longer to recover from. ◉ Rescue and recovery services come out in full force, searching damaged buildings and rubble for casualties as well as checking still-standing buildings for structural safety. Some people are allowed to return to their homes, though the process is slow. Many remain in the quake shelters.
> THE SAFEHOUSE | |||
Both Gaby and El relay and express thanks to all characters in the safehouse for their quick thinking and actions during the event in helping the other safehouse occupants as well as the citizens of New Amsterdam. The group who took on the larger creature will be thanked as well, though some caution will be expressed that they should not have taken such a risk - to themselves physically as well as in garnering so much attention. Whether time enough has passed or that character action during the event has won the trust necessary, El is finally cleared to prepare characters for free interaction with society. Characters's IDs and backgrounds are created, and the secure network is set up.
| |||
Once their ID is created, characters will have leave to come and go from the safehouse. However, it will be made explicitly clear that anyone who outs Morningstar's involvement, leads anyone back, or tells anyone of the safehouse's location will be putting the entire safehouse at risk. In the event of a leak, Morningstar will take any action necessary to protect its people. ◉ It will be impressed that even speaking about Morningstar in public carries heavy risks and will likely draw attention from the NAPD and UNA if not outright arrest. Any characters who have not yet returned to the safehouse will be faced with the difficulties and dangers of being out in the world with no ID.
| |||
It will become clear relatively quickly that survival outside the safehouse with no ID will be impossible and that evading arrest forever will also be impossible. Characters will expected to return on their own once they have reached their limit off the back of this conclusion. If this would still not provide sufficient motivation for your character to return, please let us know so we can work with you on what to do next!
> NOTES | |||
It's time to get out in the world and start exploring! If you have any ideas for early engagement, please use our plot engagement post so we can discuss and get this set up. This includes anyone who might be interested in joining Morningstar on an official level. Please also take the time (if you haven't already) to familiarize yourself with our setting page, to make sure you have a good understanding of the world setting. Please feel free to ask us any questions on any details you're unsure of! The network is now fully set up! Characters will have their IDs for network identification, and can now use their inboxes. AC closes on August 27 at 9PM UTC. If you feel you need to take a strike, please inform us before AC closes. Anyone who does not reply to AC will be removed from the game and will not be allowed to apply again for two application processing cycles. Our next app processing cycle is on September 4. We recommend that all interested applicants and new players get their applications in by September 2 so they can assure that their app is reviewed in time. Our next calendar post will be on September 1, with our next arrival log on September 8. As a reminder, we run on a bimonthly event schedule, which means there will be no big event next month, though there will be some smaller things happening throughout.

Books are only published in digital form, so there are no more bookstores or libraries in the world. Most books for the past two and a half millennia are digitized, with some exceptions that may have been lost before they could go through the process. Keep in mind that even the Catholic Church has undertaken a thorough digitization process recently in our time, so a great deal of information is available online.
Various companies allow customers to borrow books through an online membership with their sites, with some requiring customers to pay a monthly or yearly fee to borrow more books per month. These services account for the vast majority of recently published works. However, there are a lot of works available in public domain, such as encyclopedias, dictionaries, Shakespeare's works, various translations of Homer's pieces, the complete collection of Hemingway's novels, and more.

on an unrelated note: are there any long-term effects of the crab venom? i realize i should have probably asked this earlier but kylo was attacked by one of the creatures in an event thread and while the skin didn't break i know some venoms can still be absorbed into the skin and cause issues.
following on from that, i was thinking of having him look into milking some of the venom from the crab creatures (glass was very helpful in suggesting ways this could be managed) and so wanted to ask if:
a. this would be allowed. from what i understand he'd need to get samples of the tentacles themselves, which would need to be stored, and an eventual means to agitate the samples into giving up the venom. storage would take up the immediate priority, obviously.
and b. morningstar would have a lab/some sort of storage he could make use of? if approved i was hoping to rope in people with a more scientific/biology bend to do the analyzing/figuring out that side of things, to build cr and also get looking at where the creatures themselves might have originated from. if they had been engineered, etc.
and finally c. morningstar would have any interest in the samples/information gathered from the samples, should gathering them (a task i expect will be challenging but hopefully not impossible) be approved.
also, before i forget... i know the city is going to have a memorial event. will there be a log for it or are we allowed to make our own? because this seemed like a good time to try to gather the samples i mentioned above but didn't want to jump the gun, obviously.

The venom has no lasting effects, as the numbing feeling would clear from the affected area after 10 minutes.
You can feel free to have Kylo Ren collect samples to attempt to milk the venom, though we would suggest he start sooner than the memorial as the city progresses in clearing a lot of the carcasses.
Once he has collected some tentacles, he will find that they do not behave as expected, and he will not be able to get any venom out of them beyond that which has already been excreted and may remain on the surface.
Morningstar do not have a lab or any suitable storage for the samples. The only way they would be able to assist with this is in passing the samples to a contact elsewhere, who would then do the analysis for him and send back the results. If this is what you would like to do, please let us know!
We won't be posting a log for the memorial, but any players interested can feel free to do so!

and, excellent. I will have him start sooner than Memorial Day for sample gathering. and I would definitely like for him to be able to send off what he finds for analysis. it could be a good way to springboard him into joining since he doesn't have any other outside contacts yet and hopefully Morningstar can see that beneath the willing personality there is at least someone willing to get their hands dirty.
anyway, excellent. I can start working on a log post shortly!
EDIT: hi guys, i didn't know if i should submit a second comment or not but since it continues on from the questions listed above, i figured maybe i'd just edit.
so, i know you guys posted a general description of what the crabs looked like in the event. i will review this later, as well, but am currently on the train and heading home so having to do this all on mobile.
my question is: ren's going to try to strip the corpse of one of the crabs, as best he can, focusing obviously on the tentacles and the venom, as stated above, but what i wanted to know was:
1. since there's really no rules for how to handle creatures like this, i figured he'll default to the closest approximation he'd know, which is regular size crabs. so, basically, will it be possible for him to remove the shell covering the body like one would a regular crab? maybe using a knife?
2. how accessible would the organs be? also how large? i assume there'd be a fair bit of blood and gore. would there anything noticeable, appearance-wise, with regard to the blood. a weird color, perhaps? would there be any additional risks like the blood being lethally toxic etc.
basically, the tentacles and venom are still the focus of the thread, but since he is going to be digging around i thought i should double check with you guys first. i'm sorry i didn't think to include this in my initial comment and will try to avoid situations like this again in the future.
thanks a bunch.

The shell of the crabs is very, very hard, and it would not be possible for one to be removed without having brought some very powerful cutting equipment along. Due to this the organs will not be accessible. As for any blood found, we have already answered this here!

I'll also be sure to incorporate the info re: blood. 💞
